
Joao Pato
The Pato family (Pato means Duck in Portuguese) have been winemakers for a couple of centuries in one of the most traditional region in Portugal - Bairrada, a coastal region about 2 hours north of Lisbon, marked by chalky and sandy soils.
Maria Pato, the last generation, daughter of one of the most famous winemaker in Portugal - Luis Pato, created the project in memory of her grandfather Joao, died in 1986.
Her focus is expressing the true character of the indigenous varieties they work within her 8 hectares vineyard.
They work with ubiquitous red grape Baga, as well as white grapes Maria Gomes (Fernão Pires), Bical, Cerceal and Sercialinho.
