Champagne Laherte Frères
Christian and Thierry Laherte, with Aurélien, Thierry’s son, who is now the 7th Laherte generation, are Laherte Frères.
There are 10 hectars, spread between Côte des Blancs, with two 1er Crus, the southern hillsides of Epernay and the Valley of Marne. A stunning total of 72 micro-plots, this to make ten Champagnes. Separate bottling, like in Burgundy.
80% of the wine is fermented in large foudres and old barriques. Aurélien buys barrels from Benjamin Leroux and the Liger-Belair family.
In the vineyards, he is traditional and natural, following biodynamic principles, in the cellar, Aurélien is similarly inspired, with natural fermentations, use of gravity flow, a focus on purity to express terroir, and light dosage.
The result is a Champagne with depth of flavour, extremely territorial, and a strong personality.
