100% Pinot Noir. 18 months in one year old oak. From two parcels: Les Rouges du Bas and Les Treux, the latter adjacent to Grands Echezeaux, east-facing.
Echezeaux is one of Burgundy's great grand crus, situated in Flagey Echezeaux between Vougeot and Vosne Romanée in the Côte de Nuits. Marchand Tawse's cuvée is assembled from just two parcels and represents a tiny production of barely one barrel, making it one of the rarest wines in their already limited range. Les Treux borders Grands Echezeaux directly and is among the most sought-after plots in the appellation, while Les Rouges du Bas adds depth and structure to the blend.
2021 was a challenging vintage defined by spring frosts and exceptionally low yields, but the rigorous sorting and concentration that resulted produced wines of remarkable purity and intensity throughout the Côte de Nuits.
Deep ruby with a captivating nose of pure red berries, currant, wild raspberry and dried flowers, with a delicate earthy complexity that speaks of grand cru terroir. On the palate the wine is medium bodied and elegantly structured, with supple tannins, fine acidity and a fleshy, layered character that builds through the finish. Classy and precise, this is an Echezeaux that fully deserves its appellation and will reward patience over the next 15 years.
Outstanding with roast pigeon, duck breast with cherries, rack of lamb or aged Époisses. A wine that deserves a special occasion.
