Strohmeier

In the southern reaches of Austria’s Styria region, Franz Strohmeier has spent years doing something quietly radical: making wine exactly as nature intended, with no additives, no chemicals, no sulphites, and no shortcuts.

His commitment to biodiversity runs deep. Franz has replaced copper sulphate with whey to protect the vines, and in some parcels he forgoes pruning entirely, letting the plants follow their own rhythm. The result is fruit of uncommon concentration and character.

Today, his son Simon has joined him at the winery, bringing a background in gastronomy and a shared vision for weaving sustainable food production and communal work into the Strohmeier project. A new generation, the same uncompromising philosophy.

TLZ, short for Trauben, Liebe, und Zeit (“grapes, love, and time”), is the name they give to their purest wines. No sulphur. No filtration. No intervention. Just the vine, the vintage, and the patience to see it through.
